This MeanS Good Luck · NYC 2022
This painting was inspired by the spirit of Guernica, not as a reference to its narrative, but to its emotional intensity and symbolic language. I approached this work as a deeply personal exploration—one rooted in reflection, spirituality, and inner transformation.
The imagery emerged intuitively throughout the process. Symbols revealed themselves as I painted, rather than being fully planned from the start. One constant element is gold, which moves through the composition as a unifying force. For me, it represents a higher presence—something timeless and expansive—connecting the physical world, the spiritual realm, and the unknown space in between.
At the center of the piece is an all-seeing eye. It reflects consciousness, energy, and awareness—life observing itself. The eye is anchored by two legs firmly planted on the ground, symbolizing sobriety, presence, and self-knowledge. Their textured surface is intentional. I live with a skin condition, and rather than hiding that reality, I allow it to exist within my work as a reminder of vulnerability, acceptance, and growth. It is not a flaw, but part of being human.
From this balance between the spiritual and the earthly emerges a mythical figure—something reminiscent of an Alebrije. It represents clarity, strength, and readiness. Surrounding it are five suspended lights, each symbolizing a goal, a dream, a project, or even a challenge. They hold potential. The figure stands prepared to activate them—to bring intention into motion.
This painting is not meant to offer answers, but to invite belief: belief in timing, in inner power, and in the quiet moments when things begin to align.
Because sometimes, without warning or certainty,
good luck begins.
